Hardware
The Watch hardware platform is powered by Renesas Electronics Corporation’s DA14706, which is part of Renesas’ SmartBond™ line. It boasts an Arm Cortex®-M33F processor running at 160 MHz, a 2D graphics processor, Voice Activity Detector (VAD), and a Power Management Unit (PMU). With an ultra-low-power radio transceiver providing +6 dBm output power and -97 dBm sensitivity, coupled with a software-configurable and upgradeable protocol engine (MAC), the DA14706 can support Bluetooth® low energy as well as multiple other 2.4GHz protocols.
Glucose monitoring without puncturing the skin
The watch claims to be able to not only measure heart rate, but also monitor blood pressure and blood sugar levels. According to the official introduction, Orange Health Watch D Pro has functions such as non-invasive blood sugar monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, and one-click “micro-physical examination” to help ordinary people achieve intelligent health monitoring.
Yamagishi Junichi from the National Institute of Informatics, who was involved in the research and development, explained that the principle behind the blood sugar measurement of Watch D Pro relies on detecting blood sugar changes through green light and the related physiological changes in blood vessels to predict blood sugar values. The device’s measurement results in a resting state have reached a level of Medical Accreditation that is considered “attainable”.
