Installing an NVMe SSD

The installation of the M.2 2280 NVMe in the X1 M.2 M-Key socket was a breeze. In our tests, we opted for the reliable Crucial brand’s PCIe 3.0 P1 model, which boasts top-notch chips manufactured by Micron.

CrystalDiskMark: Benchmarking 1TB NVMe and eMMC

We were truly impressed by the outstanding performance of the 1TB NVMe we tested in the storage category. Its M.2 2280 Socket delivered remarkable average speeds of 2627 MB/s for reading and 2287 MB/s for writing. Additionally, the eMMC storage demonstrated impressive capabilities with a read speed of 283 MB/s and a write speed of 177 MB/s.

GNOME Disks Benchmark: Testing 1TB NVMe under Linux Mint

Once we allocated 505GB of space from our 1TB NVMe drive and formatted the partition to Ext4, we performed a test using Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition version 21.3. The results yielded a mixed outcome. The Write speeds reached an incredible 3.0 GB/s, while read speeds peaked at 431 MB/s. These differences may be linked to potential driver support issues, especially considering that the same NVMe drive achieved nearly identical transfer speeds when tested on Windows 10 OS.
